Our Natural Dyeing and Garment-Making Process
Every Los Orgánicos Tour garment begins with a combination of natural materials, textile knowledge, skilled craftsmanship, and intentional design.
Our process is slow by choice. Instead of relying on conventional mass-production methods, we develop each piece through local garment construction, hand-applied natural dyeing, water-based screen printing, and made-to-order production.
This approach allows us to create garments with their own identity, reduce overproduction, and respect both natural resources and the people involved in every stage.
Natural Fibers
Our process begins with a carefully selected blend of 55% hemp and 45% certified organic cotton.
We chose these fibers for their strength, breathability, comfort, and ability to soften and improve with wear. Hemp provides structure and durability, while organic cotton adds softness and a natural feel against the body.
Together, these fibers form the foundation of our oversized silhouettes and garments designed to last.
Cut and Sewn in Los Angeles
Every Los Orgánicos Tour garment is cut and sewn in Los Angeles, California.
Working locally allows us to stay closely connected to every stage of production, from pattern development and fabric cutting to construction, finishing, and final inspection.
Our garments are intentionally designed with relaxed, oversized proportions that provide movement, structure, and comfort. Before entering the natural dyeing process, each piece is carefully prepared and inspected.
Plant- and Mineral-Based Natural Dyes
We develop our colors using selected plant- and mineral-based materials, including:
- Indigo
- Coconut charcoal
- Red clay
- Organic coffee
Each ingredient creates a different relationship with the fabric. Indigo develops deep layers of blue; coconut charcoal produces smoky, earthy gray and dark tones; red clay adds warm mineral shades; and coffee creates natural colors with an organic, aged appearance.
We do not use these materials simply to imitate industrial colors. We choose them because they allow the fibers to develop depth, movement, and a unique visual character.
Hand-Applied Natural Dyeing
Every garment is dyed by hand in small, carefully controlled batches.
Before dyeing, we prepare each piece so the natural fibers can receive the color properly. Depending on the shade we want to achieve, a garment may go through different stages of soaking, heating, dye baths, resting, drying, rinsing, and additional applications to strengthen the color.
Some colors require several dye baths or multiple days of preparation. Throughout the process, we carefully manage the water, temperature, timing, and concentration of the natural materials to build the color gradually.
We do not expect every garment to look mechanically identical. We allow the fibers, water, climate, and natural ingredients to become part of the final result.
Responsible Water Use and Reuse
Water is an essential part of our process, and we use it responsibly.
The water used to dye one garment is not discarded after the first dye bath. It is preserved and reused for other pieces, productions, and orders, allowing us to make the most of every color preparation while reducing waste.
Once the dyeing process is complete, the remaining water is returned to the earth and used to water plants and trees in the area where we work.
The water is used, reused, and ultimately returned to the earth.
No Two Garments Are Exactly Alike
Natural dyes react with the fibers, water, temperature, humidity, and the passage of time.
For this reason, slight variations in color, texture, intensity, and tone placement may occur. These differences are not considered defects. They are the signature of an authentic handmade process and make every garment unique.
With wear and washing, the color may naturally evolve and soften, allowing each piece to develop a more personal appearance over time.
Natural Curing and Hand Finishing
After dyeing, every garment is carefully rinsed, allowed to rest and cure naturally, and inspected by hand.
The pieces are then finished using water-based screen-printing inks, selected to preserve a soft hand feel and complement our natural materials and small-batch production methods.
Before being prepared for delivery, every garment goes through a final inspection.
Ethical Production and Fair Pay
Every garment passes through different hands and specialized processes, including pattern development, cutting, sewing, dyeing, drying, screen printing, finishing, and inspection.
At Los Orgánicos Tour, we recognize the time, knowledge, and experience required at every stage. For that reason, we are committed to fair pay for every job performed and to valuing the people who make each piece possible.
For us, responsible production is not only about caring for materials and reducing waste. It also means respecting the craft, experience, and dignity of every person involved in the process.
Made-to-Order Production
Every Los Orgánicos Tour garment is made to order.
Instead of producing large quantities of inventory before knowing whether they are needed, we begin creating each piece after the order is placed. This model helps us reduce overproduction, unnecessary inventory, and waste.
It also allows us to give every garment the time and attention it requires.
Because our pieces are locally made and go through a hand-applied natural dyeing process, orders are generally prepared and shipped within two to four weeks after payment.
